The Power of Teacher Knowledge (LETRS) **SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ONLY**

More can be done to improve education by improving teacher expertise. Competent, committed and caring teachers are the number one biggest influence on a student’ s education. Students who struggle in reading need more than books to read. They need teachers who know how to teach the foundational skills of literacy, language, and writing. The purpose of this session is to show the benefits of bridging the theory and research of reading with everyday classroom instruction to increase the effectiveness of a district or school investment in existing literacy and intervention programs. Participants will understand the challenge of learning to read, why reading is difficult for some students, including those with dyslexia, and what the mind does when it reads. The strategies and techniques can be used with any research-based reading or intervention curriculum.

**SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHERS ONLY** Registration will be not be approved until copy of schedule is received. (See registration email for instructions.)
