Part I: Building Early Language Communication & Vocabulary Skills Part 2: Effective Classroom Management (For Roma ISD Kinder, only)

Early language, communication skills, and vocabulary development are crucial for children's success in school and beyond. During the first part of this training, participants will understand how explicit instruction of vocabulary is highly effective, seeing vocabulary in rich contexts provided by authentic texts, rather than in isolated vocabulary drills, produces robust vocabulary learning. Rich and robust vocabulary instruction goes beyond definition knowledge; it gets students actively engaged in using and thinking about word meanings and in creating relationships among words. Vocabulary plays a fundamental role in the reading process, and contributes greatly to a reader's comprehension. For the second part of this training, participants will be provided with research-based best practices and strategies (classroom routines and procedures) to maximize learning time and minimize student disruptions. Emphasis on critical components, which are necessary to develop effective classroom management and successful learners.WORKSHOP SITE: ROMA ISD STAFF DEVELOPMENT ROOM AT CENTRAL OFFICE
