The primary purpose of the Reimagining Writing Academy (RWA) Initiative is to increase student performance in the areas of Social Studies and Writing by strengthening collaborative efforts between general ed. writing teachers, social studies teachers, and special education teachers through strategies from a cross-curricular literacy and writing approach that includes the use of technology to provide access and ensure progress in the general education curriculum of 7th grade Special Education students in order to increase their academic achievement based on the 7th grade writing STAAR test. This initiative will provide teachers and administrators evidence-based instructional strategies that are proven to support effective instruction for student success to provide a framework for effective collaboration between general ed. and special ed. teachers to support students with disabilities.
