CACFP: Meal Patterns/Serving Reimbursable Meals CCC

This class will provide information and resources for the established U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) new meal pattern for the Child and Adult Day Care Food Program (CACFP); Compliance with meal pattern requirements effective October 2017. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) published a final rule for the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) Meal Pattern Revisions Related to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. Compliance with provisions of this rule took effect beginning October 1, 2017. The final rule strengthens the nutrition standards established for food and beverages that are served to young children and adults in day care settings. It is the first major revision of the CACFP meal pattern since the program’s inception in 1968. CACFP meals will offer more whole grains, greater variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, while lessening saturated fats added sugars. The standards increase the quality of the meals and snacks provided under the nutrition program and better align with the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. At the end of the class, the participants will have the resources and information to provide and prepare a reimbursable meal. Additionally, the participants will be able to identify food items no longer considered as creditable or allowable food items.
