Understanding Disabilities 101 Series for Paraprofessionals Day 6-repeat session

This six day series of virtual sessions were developed for paraprofessionals as an introduction to the types of disabilities being served within special education, as well as general education classrooms. The series will cover the thirteen disability categories recognized by federal legislation. Each day will comprise of 1-2 disabilities and participants will learn the basic definition, acquire a basic understanding of the general characteristics of the disability group and how these characteristics impact the student’s learning. Participants can choose to attend one or all sessions within the series. Day 1: learning disabilities and intellectual disabilities Day 2: emotional disturbance and autism Day 3: deaf-blindness, visual impairments, hearing impairments Day 4 multiple disabilities and other health impairments Day 5: orthopedic impairment and traumatic brain injury Day 6: speech and non-categorical early childhood
