This session is a conversation with Dr. Ellen Mandinach who is an expert on data literacy. We will talk about if there is a difference between assessment literacy and data literacy, and if so, why is that difference important. This session goes to the heart of the question: What are educational data: We will discuss what data educators need and should be using, what educators think about data, and why a broad view of data is important. This session features Dr. Ellen B. Mandinach, Senior Research Scientist at Learning Innovations, WestEd. She has authored several books on the topic of data literacy. Mandinach provides technical assistance to states on data systems and data use. She has served on a number of technical working groups and advisory boards on data use. She was an expert panelist on the Institute of Education Sciences practice guide for data-driven decision-making, and on a National Center for Education Statistics, a working group focusing on researchers’ use of statewide longitudinal data systems.
