Presenter: Jeanine Fitzgerald - In today's world, we have many living in stress, distress or trauma. Yet, stressed individuals are not empowered. This stress interferes with memory, attention, health, and learning. When it is chronic, it is toxic to a human brain and body.
As the nursery rhyme goes…”all the King’s horses and all the King’s men, couldn’t put Humpty together again.” While that may be true, professionals and parents can by tipping the scale from vulnerability to resilience. This session will explore resilience as an active ingredient to a life at peace with its past, content with its present and optimistic about the future. It offers field-tested strategies so every child and adult can navigate stormy waters without capsizing and how to create safe harbors for those whose storms continue to crash their shores and toss them about in the surf.
Objectives:
At the completion of this session, the professionals will be able to:
• .Identify the impact, stress, distress and trauma has on children and teens.
• Observe the reactions and universal symptoms of stress, distress and trauma.
• Effectively address the seven common triggers, whether positive or negative.
• Apply best practices to the hard and sensitive topics such as loss and death,, substance abuse or mental health issues in a family, serious illness in a family, and domestic violence.
