Project P.a.C.E. Literacy in the Content Area

This course seeks to help educators understand the relationship between literacy and content area study and how to teach reading in their respective disciplines. Clear research-based answers are analyzed to overarching questions about teaching reading in the content areas – specifically,
1. What skills do students need to read effectively in the content area?
2. What strategies help students become more effective learners and positively impact student learning?
Emphasis added on research-based strategies for the secondary school related to text structure/organization, vocabulary instruction, word identification, oral reading fluency, and reading comprehension.
Theoretical and practical aspects are uncovered as participants engage in a multitude of instructional practices which are developmentally appropriate within the classroom.
