Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid Course (YMHFA) - (WESLACO ISD STAFF ONLY)

Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This 6-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. Virtual YMHFA training will be provided in collaboration with our Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHA) -Tropical Texas Behavioral Health trainers. Registration closes approximately two weeks before the class date, at which point, a course will be created on the national YMHFA portal. Once the course is created and participants are registered, participants will receive an email from algee@theNationalCouncil.org with instructions on how to access the pre-work assignments on the Cornerstone LMS. Participants are required to complete pre-test and a 2-hour, self-paced online class prior to participating in a 4-5 hour instructor-led videoconference session via ZOOM. Participants must attend 90% of the virtual class with 70% participation, complete post-test and evaluation in order to receive certificate. Certificates are valid for 3 years.
