Day 1-The Effective Educator Impacts Learning-Presenter: Rosalinda Ochoa
Beginning teachers will focus on the essential skills of becoming an effective educator: high expectations and mastery learning for all students. Participants will become better prepared for the first days of school and gain a deeper understanding of professionalism and ethics.
Day 2-Effective Classroom Management and Maintaining-Presenter: Reymundo Alejandro
Positive Student Behavior
Beginning teachers will plan, prepare, and create a classroom culture that is responsive to student need by using the critical elements of effective classroom management: managing time, space, materials, and behavior. Participants will recognize and understand how to maintain positive student behavior by understanding the reasons for misbehavior and effective strategies to address them.
Day 3-Growing Partnerships: Parents, Mentors and
Colleagues-Presenter: Lulu Soto
Effective teachers pursue partnerships with parents and families for the benefit of students. In this session, beginning teachers will further develop their skills in working with parents and families through effective communication, protocols and positive interactions. In addition, participants will gain an understanding of their mentor’s role and characteristics of effective team members in professional learning communities.
Day 4-Learning and the Learner-Presenter: Edna Rodriguez
Beginning teachers will learn how to best facilitate a brain-friendly classroom and teach for learning for all, utilizing high yield instructional approaches and best practices in teaching and learning. Educators will also develop a deeper understanding of the standards to best support aligned instructional practices. Finally, teachers will recognize the importance of vocabulary and visuals and learn methods for infusing both into purposeful instruction.
