FMCSA ELDT Workshop - INVITATION ONLY

Driving a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) requires a higher level of knowledge, experience, skills, and physical abilities than that required to drive a non-commercial vehicle. In order to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), an applicant must pass both skills and knowledge testing geared to these higher standards. Additionally CDL holders are held to a higher standard when operating any type of motor vehicle on public roads. Serious traffic violations committed by a CDL holder can affect their ability to maintain their CDL certification. FMCSA’s Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations set the baseline for training requirements for entry-level drivers. This includes those applying to: -Obtain a Class A or Class B CDL for the first time; -Upgrade an existing Class B CDL to a Class A CDL; or -Obtain a school bus (S), passenger (P), or hazardous materials (H) endorsement for the first time. Join us for this presentation on the background of the entry-level driver training rule (what it requires of CDL applicants, training providers, and States). Further, we will also speak about driver training, and training provider requirements. For example, what do the ELDT regulations require of training providers and what types of trainings are required. And then we’ll touch on the Training Provider Registry (TPR); how drivers, trainers, and States will use it and how it supports the ELDT program. A Q&A period will follow if time permits.
