Gramática Básica (2 day session). For Harlingen ISD staff only.

One of the biggest challenges for bilingual teachers of Spanish speaking students is to use formal academic Spanish vocabulary in the classroom. Teachers will develop materials that they will use to teach basic Spanish grammar. On the first day, teachers will review and practice the components of the Spanish grammar (the nine parts of a sentence) through hands on activities. They will receive materials and master copies to develop manipulatives to teach sentence structures. The second day of the session is designed to help bilingual teachers who need to extend their knowledge of the Spanish spelling rules to use accents, punctuation, and the use of capital and lower case letters. Most of these elements can be transferred from Spanish to the English language and can be used to develop literacy in both languages. Teachers can strengthen their knowledge of academic Spanish while developing resources to transfer spelling and writing skills through their student’s native language. Teachers will receive handouts and the book: La ortografía de la lengua española Reglas y Ejercicios, published by Larousse.
