UTRGV TRC 17 - Closing the GAPS through Formative Assessment (***ONLY for UTRGV TRC Members)

Participants will continue experiencing Formative Assessment Lessons and how to use student evidence to support instructional decision making. Participants will be introduced to the Van Hiele Levels of Geometric Thinking and the phases of learning geometry. Participants will engage in reasoning with relationships, generalizing geometric ideas, investigating invariants, and balancing exploration and reflection. Participants will identify patterns in the way student’s think, evaluate student work on the basis of specific learning objectives, and identify what one particular task reveals about students’ understandings. The focus will be on mental models linked to geometric, algebraic, and proportional reasoning meanwhile targeting the 3-8 grade math TEKS.
