Reaching and Teaching Students in Poverty featuring Dr. Paul Gorski

PLEASE ONLY REGISTER IF YOU ARE ABLE TO ATTEND THIS SESSION. Dr. Paul Gorski, author of the book titled Reaching and Teaching Students in Poverty and national presenter, will be featured as the guest speaker for this event. This event is expected to fill quickly and prompt registration is recommended. The limit is 100 with no additional spots to be opened. Dr. Gorski was recently a keynote speaker at the Statewide Equity Conference held at South Padre Island on May 22-24, 2017. By popular demand, we are offering a full day training on the topic of teaching students in poverty and the misconceptions about this group of learners. Dr. Gorski will provide information about eliminating stereotypes of poverty and how to provide equitable learning experience to help close the academic achievement gaps that exist of these learners. Participants will receive a copy of his book. Dr. Paul C. Gorski is an associate professor of Integrative Studies in George Mason University's School of Integrative Studies, where he teaches classes such as Poverty, Wealth, and Inequality; Social Justice Education; Social Justice Consciousness and Personal Transformation; and Contemporary Issues in Social Justice and Human Rights. He recently led the design and development of the new Social Justice and Human Rights undergraduate and graduate programs. Paul is a Senior Research Fellow for the Center for the Advancement of Well-Being and is serving his third term on the board of the International Association for Intercultural Education. He has been an active consultant, presenter, and trainer for nearly twenty years, conducting workshops and providing guidance for schools and community organizations committed to equity and diversity. He created and continues to manage the Multicultural Education Pavilion, an award-winning Web site focused on critical multicultural education. He has published more than 50 articles and eight books, focusing most recently on topics like poverty and educational opportunity, racial equity, and activist resiliency. Intended audience: PK-12 teachers of all disciplines and content areas (bilingual, special ed, ELA/R, music ed, etc.), campus and district level administrators, pre-service teachers, substitute teachers, school board members. ***This training is funded by the Texas Education Agency and NO vendors or for-profit or private practice personnel will be admitted to this session. ****
