Inspiring Independent Readers: Giving Students Choice in the ELAR Classroom

This session will invite teachers to create a culture of independent reading in the classroom. Teachers will learn how to foster an environment that mirrors a book club and leads to deep discussions of literary elements while allowing for student choice. Teachers will be able to plan lessons that are less text dependent and allow for any novel to be discussed and analyzed with students leading the charge. Sit back and watch students blossom into lifelong readers who will be more successful on STAAR with less of the traditional test preparation methods.
