Working with "RAD" Kids - (Reactive Attachment Disorder)

Reactive Attachment Disorder (RAD) is a complex psychiatric disorder in children who have difficulty establishing emotional attachments to others. Children with RAD and children with other psychiatric disorders require extensive supports when attending public schools. Schools often lack the expertise and capacity to meet the needs of these students. Traditional approaches may even exasperate these issues. This session will assist educators in: 1) Understanding the manifestations of RAD in schools along with other common childhood psychiatric disorders. 2) Developing educationally therapeutic supports for students with RAD and other psychiatric disorders. Including: a) Individual Behavior Supports b) Classroom supports c) Family and Interagency collaboration.
