College Advisor Training Program:
Advising Training is critical to ensure faculty and staff have the tools and resources to ensure that students are successful both inside and outside of the classroom. The training focuses on providing holistic support and a solid foundation of the enrollment process, including assessment, placement, and federal/state aid regulations. Likewise, some faculty and staff members are not fully aware of the student support services that promote students’ success, achievement and completion. These services include Centers of Learning Excellence, library services, personal counseling and personal development, career planning and placement, instructional technology, student life, leadership development and wellness. The Office of Comprehensive Advising uses the National Academic Advising Association’s training videos as a cornerstone for the academic advising training offered to faculty, staff, and the College’s Professional Academic Advisors. The faculty and staff are also trained to utilize student information systems to document student progress, communication, recommendations, and interventions. Each of the training sessions is tailored to the employee segment, i.e. training focuses on the student population staff will be engaged with.
