Scaffolding and Differentiation in Secondary Science and Social Studies

With the STAAR redesign, students can use online accessibility features that support them in achieving expectations. Teachers must know how to prepare students to use these features through everyday instructional practices such as scaffolding and differentiation. Both scaffolding and differentiation are designed to encourage all students to achieve expectations for standards and can seem difficult or overwhelming. Scaffolding allows teachers to help all students reach expectations in a step-by-step framework. It can be confused with providing multiple, differentiated paths of instruction. This workshop will provide teachers with strategies and activities for immediate implementation in the classroom to help scaffold and differentiate content to increase student success on STAAR.
