Maximizing Circle-Time: Opportunities for Rich Language and Literacy Development

Participants will discover ways to develop language and literacy skills during circle-time. They will identify how circle-time or class meeting time provides a valuable context for enhancing emergent literacy and beginning reading and writing. Participants of this workshop will examine how effective approaches during circle-time foster language and literacy skills through story time, drama, fingerplays and rhymes, music and movement, planning for the day, special experiences, and for children to share their experiences and ideas. In addition, participants will plan for actively engaging young children to create an effective language and literacy learning environment.
