WS Welding Certification Workshop (High School CTE)

This workshop is designed to provide high school students with the opportunity to demonstrate their welding skills and earn an industry-recognized certification through the American Welding Society. The session will prepare students to complete a performance-based welding test aligned with the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.

Under the guidance of a certified welding instructor, students will apply classroom knowledge in a hands-on setting by following a Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) to complete a weld in an assigned position (such as 3G vertical or 4G overhead). The workshop emphasizes workplace safety, proper equipment use, and adherence to industry standards.

Student welds will be evaluated through visual inspection and mechanical testing, such as guided bend tests, to ensure quality and structural soundness. Students who successfully meet AWS standards will earn a certification that demonstrates their readiness for entry-level employment, apprenticeships, or continued training in welding and related technical fields.

This workshop supports Career and Technical Education (CTE) goals by providing real-world experience, promoting college and career readiness, and connecting students to high-demand, high-skill career pathways in the welding industry.
