AT in Action: Busting Myths, Supporting Student Needs, and Knowing Your Role **STISD Staff ONLY**

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Paraprofessionals play a key role in helping students access learning—and assistive technology (AT) is one of the most powerful tools available to support that success. But what counts as AT? Who decides what’s used? And how can you help students without doing the work for them?

In this session, paraprofessionals will explore and debunk common myths about assistive technology, learn the basics of what AT includes, and understand how it supports student independence. Participants will also learn how to recognize when AT is part of a student’s IEP, and how to use it as intended in the classroom, without over-supporting or stepping beyond their role.

This session is about building confidence, clarity, and practical strategies for supporting students with AT the right way—so they can learn, grow, and thrive.

Participants will leave with:
* A clear understanding of what assistive technology is (and what it isn’t)
* Tips for recognizing when and how to use AT as part of a student’s IEP
* Strategies for supporting student independence with AT
* Guidance on working with the teacher and specialists to support AT use in real time
