Let’s Play! Sand Tray/Play Therapy Techniques

Play therapy techniques may be used for various purposes, such as to establish rapport, communicate, assess, and to deliver treatment. Therapists who use play in their sessions may choose to use several tools such as music, toys, art, board games, sand, books, and drama play in order to provide therapeutic intervention and to enhance client wellbeing. School counselors and clinicians are in a unique position to offer these interventions to children and teens within the school environment. In this work shop, mental health service providers will learn about play therapy theories, techniques, and tools that may be useful when working with their students.
Objectives: In this workshop, the learners will:
• Learn to identify the most suitable theories and techniques for challenging behaviors
• Identify how to implement play therapy techniques using simple and commonly available items and toys
• Create and use practical and relevant interventions for youth of various ages
