Students will be invited to submit their final art projects for display at the Region One ESC Service Center. Students will visit the Exhibit and then have an opportunity to participate in various Sensory Art Activities. Sensory art is the exploration and creation of art with a variety of sensory items that encourages creativity and allows a person to explore and express themselves in a manner that is best for their personal needs. The goal is to create a multisensory experience, that appeals to sight, touch, hearing, smell, and sometimes even taste. Under the McKinney-Vento Act, homeless children and youth must have access to education and support services to ensure that they are able to meet the same challenging State academic standards as their peers. Additionally, districts must designate a liaison for homeless children and youth to ensure that identified children and youth successfully enroll and have the opportunity to succeed in school. Participants will receive training and technical assistance that support the goals and objectives of their McKinney Vento program. Furthermore, SEAs, LEAs, and schools may not separate students from the mainstream school environment on the basis of their homelessness.
