Evaluating young children as they transition into the school setting can present unique challenges for evaluation personnel. This presentation will review different assessments that can be utilized in a holistic evaluation of young children. Participants will define differences between norm referenced assessments and criterion referenced assessments. During this workshop, learners will recognize different stages of developmental milestones to enhance the interpretation of evaluation results. Participants will learn how to provide a detailed account of a child’s developmental strengths and weaknesses to make individualized, student specific recommendations and interventions for school-based teams. This series of trainings are in support of the English HB 5 College Prep Course, also known as College Transitions. This series will focus on curriculum instruction, development and calibration of the student writing portfolio, and provide an opportunity for peer to peer networking and support. These trainings are mandatory as per the Memorandum of Understanding established by local institutions of higher education and Region One ESC school districts in August 2014 and updated August 2025. Participants should bring a laptop or other electronic device.

With so much to navigate, participants will learn the difference between annual and transition goals, with a concentration on the three areas for post-secondary goals of training/education, employment, and independent living skills, as well as learn about age-appropriate transition assessments and a coordinated set of activities. In this three-part session, the presenter covers Transition Assessments, A Coordinated Set of Activities, and Writing Appropriate, Measurable Postsecondary Goals. Participants will use the resources provided in order to take action toward engaging in practice activities, improving practices and enhancing postsecondary outcomes for students.

This is a SIX PART series. Participants can attend individual sessions as needed. The Dyslexia Education Network provides a collaborative platform where dyslexia specialists can deepen their expertise and enhance their instructional practices for students with dyslexia and related learning differences. Through professional collaboration, educators will develop collective knowledge in key areas including evaluation techniques, executive functioning strategies, and multisensory instructional approaches. This professional learning community empowers educators to refine their skills and ultimately improve outcomes for the students they serve. This 6-hour training will provide clear notes, real-life examples, and detailed explanations to model effective implementation of a Re-Entry Circle. In addition, participants will learn to provide support and services for the student(s) that are transitioning back into the educational setting, how to write an Accountability Agreement using SMART Goals, how to monitor the Accountability Agreement with weekly check-ins, and to connect student(s) with a trusted adult on campus.
