The landscape of AI in education is shifting rapidly. While initial adoption centered on conversational chatbots, the emergence of autonomous AI agents—tools that can perform tasks, access data, and interact with other systems—presents a new frontier for K-12 security. This session explores how district leaders can move from reactive blocking to a proactive, governance-first approach. We will discuss the risks of "Shadow AI," the importance of data privacy in the age of autonomous agents, and how to build a security perimeter that empowers innovation while protecting sensitive student and staff information.
