Coaching Using the Cycle of Instructional Improvement

The cycle of instructional improvement describes the process by which teachers adapt instruction to meet the differing needs of their students by learning from experience and evidence, in order to improve their own practice. The teacher learner will be guided through the cycle using the following steps: setting a focus goal, selecting and aligning instructional strategies, implementation of the strategy, data collection, and then an analysis and reflection of the results to determine next steps. When teachers drive their instruction using the cycle of instructional improvement, they are taking responsibility for the learning of each of their students.
