Dollar Store Math - PLUS

In this session you will learn how to use items purchased from the dollar store to create learning centers for your students struggling with math to practice their skills. Using items from the dollar store paired with manipulatives and resources already in the classroom, teachers will learn how to quickly set up and take down centers to support their math instruction. This session will include a 1 hour trip to the local dollar store. Participants are asked to allocate a minimum of $10 of personal funds for this trip. The participants will be guided in the store by the presenter for ideas in designing your own mathematics literacy centers. The remainder of the afternoon session will be dedicated to planning and presenting ideas to the group. The intent of the centers is so you can use the ideas to enhance math instruction for students who struggle in grasping the concepts or for students who have lost confidence and motivation in the area of math. You can also use these centers for a family math night or for a school-wide "math day." All centers will be presented with English and Spanish ready-made resources and aligned to the PreK Guidelines and elementary Math TEKS. (Participants, please wear comfortable clothing such as loose stretch pants, t-shirt, and sneakers. ***There will be some stooping, bending, and possibly some work on the floor.
