AT Teams & Life Skills Teachers: Alternative Pencils & Alternative Voices “ Make & Take”

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

The goal of this session is to reflect back to the instructional basics of the alternate state assessment. In this session, participants will gain a better understanding on assessing student’s communication needs and writing needs, at the earliest engagement levels. Participants will explore tools to facilitate communication for students with significant disabilities and complex communication needs (CCN) to communicate symbolically with a variety of people for a variety of purposes. Participants will also explore alternatives to traditional writing tools for students with significant cognitive and/or physical disabilities that limit their ability to demonstrate learning via paper-pencil options. Participants will make 2 adaptations to communication tools needed for individuals with multiple disabilities to learn communication skills and at least 1 alternative writing tool. Most of the tools that we will explore are low cost and readily made by teachers and parents.

This training is for members of current AT Teams and Life Skills Teachers.
