Parent Coordinators are an important resource for connecting families and the community to the school. However, the role of the parent coordinator is often undefined and underutilized. Helping the parent coordinator move from a social service support role and administrative accessory to a confident family coach focused on student learning outcomes requires quality professional development and the ongoing support of school leadership. When provided with the right tools and training, coordinators can effectively assist families understand school programs, systems and procedures in support of students’ academic and social success.

The two-day Parent Coordinator Boot Camp provides parent coordinators with:
• An understanding of the research on family engagement and a deep dive on the essential conditions of effective family engagement
• An opportunity to engage in rich dialogue and interactive activities to better understand the role and responsibilities of the parent coordinator
• Tools to self-assess current practice and to develop a yearlong action plan aligned to student learning
• Communication templates to keep leadership, school staff and families updated on the work of the parent coordinator
Each coordinator will receive a Parent Coordinator Toolkit filled with resources and templates to assist with planning, implementation and communication.
