Increasing Data Literacy/Decision Making - For Special Education Directors (virtual session)

This session is for Region One area Special Education Directors only. In this training, you will learn about the concept of culturally responsive data literacy (also known as data literacy for teaching). You will also be introduced to four kinds of data via the Data Literacy Framework and we will discuss good data use and less effective data use for each kind of data. Data literacy not only involves knowing how to use data, but to also be able to recognize inappropriate use of data. We will also consider the skills and dispositions that teachers, or users of data, should possess in order to effectively use data. In this training, you will get an opportunity to learn about curriculum-based measurement (CBM) and make connections to the metacognitive knowledge that is necessary for users of data to appropriately access, interpret, and apply their understanding of the data for instructional decision-making. Finally, you will learn about how bias can skew data interpretation. This session will not be recorded.
