Beyond "Sound it Out" - How to Teach Students to Sound Out Words and Build Independent Learners

This workshop PART 2 and is a follow up for participants from WS 162330. ONLY participants from WS 162330 may register - no exceptions as this is a Part 2 training. Have you ever told a student to "sound out" a word? Most importantly, has anyone ever taught YOU how to teach students to "sound out" a word? In this session, you will learn about the six syllable patterns and how instruction in these patterns helps you help your students to not only sound out words for the moment but to build lifelong decoding AND encoding skills. Knowledge of the six syllable patterns also helps students correct spelling errors and become increasingly independent readers and writers. As a bonus, you will learn about words that do not follow the rules...stay tuned for THIS surprise!

On the day of the session, you will receive specific instructions on the TWO step process for signing in. Please read those instructions very carefully to avoid any technical issues. Some of the instructions you will receive include having your camera must be ON during the Zoom session. You will also need to sign into the Zoom no later than 5 minutes after the start of the session.
