Developing Self-Advocacy in Students with Disabilities

**DONNA ISD only*** In this session, participants will learn about self-advocacy as the ability to communicate strengths, preferences, needs, interests, and goals for the future. Students who self-advocate are more likely to thrive in school, work, and life. Being a good self-advocate has huge implications for kids and adults who learn and think differently, and often makes them feel confident in what they’re learning and doing. Self-advocacy skills can be learned at any age. Using the "I'm Determined" Resources, this session will provide strategies and ideas on how to include students of all ages in their own IEP development and meetings so they can build confidence and become strong self-advocates to positively affect their future outcomes.
