Counselor Support Workshop: Self-Regulation and Coping Skills: The Neuroscience of Distress Tolerance

Self-regulation and coping strategies are imperative skills for children and their grown-ups. These skills are necessary for their sense of wellbeing, ability to function at school and at home, and for their interpersonal relationships. In this workshop the learner will better understand how to help children and adolescents manage their physiological and emotional reactions when they are in survival mode, and how to help them prevent/minimize crises by using self-regulation and coping skills that target the nervous system. Objectives: Learners will:·Identify the five stages of emotion generation, learn the basic skills for stages one through four and learn various skills and the science of response modulation.
