Cases and Codes: Ethical and Legal Practices for Counselors

Counselors serve many roles in their workplace and in their communities. Tough situations may arise and threaten to push a counselor’s ethical and legal boundaries. In this workshop, mental health service providers will learn about the ways they can maintain proper roles, boundaries, documentation, and reporting procedures. Counselors will also learn about the different responsibilities they may have to their Council, their clients, their organizations, and the community at large.
Objectives: In this workshop, the learners will:
• Learn about the various ethical and legal codes related to mental health
• Learn about the common ethical mistakes clinicians make and how to avoid them
• Explore and discuss the different types of ethical and legal responsibilities
• Learn about proper documentation and record keeping
