Forces Unite: Toilet training for students with complex needs

Successful toilet training is a crucial component for a person to be fully included in a community. Toilet training is the starting point for increasing student independence, social acceptance, and health. Participants will learn to identify the importance and common barriers associated with toilet training students of varying ages and abilities. Participants will recognize child readiness, and environmental, and visual routines to increase student independence. Additionally, participants will understand evidence-based toilet training techniques, how to teach initiations, and enhance generalizations to promote student success. A make-and-take session in the afternoon will give participants a chance to create materials that can be implemented in the classroom quickly and easily.
