Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid Course (YMHFA) with Required Pre-Work - VIRTUAL - Webb, Zapata, Starr, Jim Hogg Counties

Virtual Youth Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders in youth. This 6-hour training gives adults who work with youth the skills they need to reach out and provide initial support to children and adolescents (ages 6-18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to the appropriate care. Virtual YMHFA training will be provided in collaboration with our Local Mental Health Authorities (LMHA) - Border Region Behavioral Mental Health Center trainers. Registration closes approximately two weeks before the class date, at which point, a course will be created on the national YMHFA portal. Once the course is created and participants are registered, participants will receive an email with instructions on how to access the pre-work assignments. Participants are required to complete a 2-hour, self-paced online class prior to participating in a 4-5 -5.5-hour instructor-led videoconference. Participants must attend 90% of the virtual class with 70% participation, complete post-test and evaluation in order to receive certificate. Certificates are valid for 3 years.

Region One Districts and Charter Schools ONLY - All school employees are eligible including but not limited to: administrators, educators, support staff, substitute teachers, coaches, bus drivers, and cafeteria staff.
