Transitioning to School Nursing - Laredo

School nurses help build a bridge between health and education! The CDC advises schools to have one full-time nurse for every 750 students, while the American Academy of Pediatrics, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the NASN recommend having at least one registered nurse in every school. The purpose of "Transitioning to School Nursing" is to equip and resource nurses and health personnel with the resources, information and tools critical to supporting positive student academic and health outcomes in the Texas school system.

Topics for this training will include:
Foundations of School Nursing, NASN Framework, standards of practice, legal considerations, section 504, IHPs & EAPs, Public Health Issues including communicable diseases, immunizations and exemptions; and state mandated health screenings.

Training is in alignment with COVID-19 Public Health Workforce Grant as it equips new and existing school health personnel by providing information / training / and skills necessary to meet requirements and effectively and efficiently fulfill job duties required of school health personnel.
