Providing Audiology Services in the Schools

** For Itinerant Staff Only*** This three-hour workshop will be hosted by Drs. Sandy Magallan and Maria Munoz, audiologists at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. This workshop is divided into four segments, 1. Audiology Foundations: which will cover various hearing tests such as ABR, OAEs, tympanometry, and include basic interpretation, 2. Hearing Aid Troubleshooting: we will discuss basic troubleshooting techniques for hearing aids and ear molds, 3. Implant Troubleshooting: covering cochlear implants and bone conduction hearing devices, and 4. Q & A: attendees will be able to ask questions and discuss complex scenarios in the educational setting. Hands-on activities, such as ear mold re-tubing, implant listening checks, and otoscopy, will be implemented to solidify the training topics discussed. Moreover, attendees will receive condensed handouts for reference of the content covered in this workshop to take back to their school districts. The goal of this workshop is to review audiology and hearing device foundations and practice troubleshooting, with the guidance of audiologists, with a hands on technical approach.
