Humanities Texas: Teaching Latino Poetry

The workshops will explore the possibilities of Latino Poetry: The Library of America Anthology for classroom use by secondary-level English language arts (ELA) teachers. The anthology includes the work of close to two hundred poets and from the seventeenth to twenty-first centuries and presents those poems written in Spanish in the original and in English translation. Content will be aligned with the secondary-level ELA TEKS.

The workshops will feature close interaction with scholars and writers, the examination of texts, and the development of effective pedagogical strategies and engaging assignments and activities. Teachers will receive a copy of the anthology and other instructional materials.
