Participants will explore the essential components of the Differentiated Monitoring and Support (DMS) system, focusing on both the cyclical and targeted reviews that shape continuous improvement efforts for special education in Texas. Designed from the lens of a Special Education Liaison, this overview will equip participants with a clear understanding of the Texas Continuous Improvement Process and the state’s responsibility under IDEA 2004 to ensure that all students with disabilities receive appropriate services and achieve positive outcomes.

Through this session, participants will:
Gain foundational knowledge of the DMS system, including how cyclical reviews and targeted reviews differ in purpose and process.
Understand the cyclical review timeline, including six-year monitoring cycles, key milestones, and expectations for LEAs as they prepare for and engage in these reviews.
Examine the Division of Review and Support’s role in monitoring and supporting compliance with federal and state regulations, with an emphasis on collaboration and constructive engagement.
Identify practical strategies to support LEAs as they navigate the cyclical review process, including distributing surveys, facilitating stakeholder communication, and leveraging monitoring results to inform sustainable improvement.

Participants will leave with resources and actionable strategies to help their LEAs engage in the cyclical review process as an opportunity for growth and positive student outcomes.
