Helping or Hovering? Finding the Balance in Student Support **STISD STAFF ONLY**

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Paraprofessionals play a vital role in supporting students with disabilities—but how close is too close? This session explores the important findings from the article Helping or Hovering? Effects of Instructional Assistant Proximity on Students with Disabilities, shedding light on how physical proximity can impact student independence, peer interactions, and learning outcomes. Participants will engage in interactive scenarios and reflection activities to identify when support empowers—and when it unintentionally hinders—a student’s growth. Learn practical strategies to foster independence, encourage peer engagement, and collaborate more effectively with teachers to promote a least-restrictive learning environment. Leave with a clearer understanding of how to “step back” without stepping away. #ATESC1, #LIDESC1
