National Constitution Center: Teaching the Founding Documents

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

In accordance with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standard to teach Celebrate Freedom Week at the start of the school year, we will highlight strategies for teaching the founding documents, such as the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights, in the classroom. Using the Center’s educational framework, teachers will examine historical foundations through storytelling related to the founding documents. Then, teachers will consider the documents themselves through implementing constitutional thinking skills. Finally, teachers will engage in civil dialogue and reflection with one another to consider strategies they can take back to their own classrooms.
