This powerful two-part session weaves together the latest research in Emotional Intelligence (EQ), Social Emotional Learning (SEL), and trauma-informed practices to support students experiencing homelessness—from early childhood through adolescence.

In Part 1, Heart and Mind, participants will explore how emotional intelligence and global SEL competencies enhance support for homeless students under the McKinney-Vento Act. Through interactive dialogue and practical strategies, staff will learn to build trust, elevate student voice, and foster trauma-informed learning environments.

In Part 2, Heart, Mind & Little Hands, the focus turns to early childhood. Participants will take part in creative, make-and-take activities that offer hands-on SEL tools to help young children express emotions, self-regulate, and build resilience amidst instability.

Together, these sessions provide a holistic approach to SEL across age groups—empowering educators and support staff to meet the social and emotional needs of homeless students with compassion, creativity, and connection. Participants will leave with a toolkit of strategies, ready-to-use resources, and renewed confidence in their vital role as change agents for equity and healing.

This is a face to face session, no virtual option will be offered.
