Heart, Mind & Hands: Practical Approaches to McKinney Vento Students of All Ages:

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

This two-part professional learning session equips educators and staff with practical strategies rooted in emotional intelligence, social-emotional learning, and trauma-informed practices to support students experiencing homelessness—from early childhood through adolescence.

Part 1: Heart and Mind
Participants will explore the role of emotional intelligence and social-emotional competencies in creating safe and supportive environments for homeless students under the McKinney-Vento Act. Through interactive dialogue and practical tools, attendees will learn ways to build trust, encourage student expression, and establish positive learning spaces responsive to students’ experiences.
Training will be in Fort Ringgold from 8 to 4 p.m. Participants will have time to visit with vendors in the morning from 9 to 12 in Falcon Dam and Sla del Rey.

Part 2: Heart, Mind & Little Hands
The second session focuses on early childhood education. Participants will engage in hands-on, make-and-take activities designed to help young children identify emotions, self-regulate, and strengthen coping skills during times of instability.

Together, these sessions offer a comprehensive approach that empowers staff to meet the unique needs of students facing homelessness with empathy, creativity, and practical resources. Participants will leave with a toolkit of strategies and ready-to-use materials to enhance their daily practice.
Training will be in Fort Ringgold from98 to 4 p.m. Participants will have time to visit with vendors in the morning from 8 to 12 in Falcon Dam and Sla del Rey.
This is an in-person session. A virtual option is not available.
