Jubilee Brownsville Math PD (JUBILEE TEACHERS ONLY)

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

Understanding the structures behind word problems is essential for building students’ conceptual foundations in mathematics. In this interactive session, teachers in grades 2–5 will explore the full range of addition and subtraction problem types, distinguishing between action problems (best modeled with number lines) and no-action problems such as part–part–whole and comparison situations (best modeled with strip diagrams).

The session will then shift to multiplication and division problem types, including equal groups, area, equal measures, multiplicative comparisons, and measurement conversions, with a focus on how strip diagrams help students visualize these structures. Teachers will also trace the progression of models to algorithms, examining how multiplication and division develop conceptually from area models and partial products/quotients to numerical bridges and finally the standard algorithm.
