Yturria Elementary Math Professional Development (Yturria Teachers ONLY)

By the end of this 3-hour PD, participants will be able to:
(1) identify classroom conditions that cultivate mathematical thinking using the 8 Cultural Forces and the Understanding Map;
(2) build and refine a shared concept web for Number by mapping teacher-generated ideas to ASCD Level 1–2 vocabulary;
(3) explain and model the four meanings of number (how many, which, how much, label) with the unit made explicit;
(4) classify additive (join/separate, part–part–whole, comparison) and multiplicative/division (equal groups/array, multiplicative comparison, partitive vs. quotative) problem structures and match each to an appropriate representation (number line, part–part–whole, strip diagram, array/area, jumps on a line.
