This targeted professional learning experience is designed to strengthen T-TESS appraiser accuracy and confidence when observing and evaluating Special Education instruction. Participants will engage in a focused calibration session centered on Domains 2 and 3, examining how effective instructional practices, classroom environments, and student supports manifest across diverse Special Education settings. Through guided exploration of T-TESS descriptors, appraisers will deepen their understanding of high-quality instruction within resource, inclusion, and self-contained classrooms. Emphasis is placed on accurate evidence collection, alignment to instructional supports and accommodations, and justification of ratings that authentically reflect Special Education teaching practices. The session incorporates video-based calibration activities, allowing participants to practice scripting, identify high-leverage evidence, and norm ratings using Special Education–specific scenarios. Structured reflection and discussion will support consistency across appraisers and reinforce reliable, equitable evaluation practices districtwide. By the end of the session, appraisers will leave with increased clarity, shared expectations, and actionable strategies to apply calibrated observation practices across a wide range of Special Education instructional environments, ensuring alignment to T-TESS expectations and supporting instructional excellence for all learners.
