Art-Based Approaches to Grief Support in School Settings

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

This full-day workshop introduces participants to art-therapy informed, evidence-based
approaches for supporting grief and loss in school settings. Drawing from clinical art therapy
practice, trauma-informed care, and developmental psychology, the workshop offers a unique
opportunity for school counselors and mental health practitioners to expand their clinical toolkit
beyond words - using art-making as a way to support regulation, expression, assessment and
meaning making.
Participants will not only learn about art-based approaches, but will actively engage in them,
gaining firsthand understanding of how creative processes can support students who may
struggle to articulate grief verbally. Throughout the day, emphasis is placed on ethical use,
clinical boundaries, developmental considerations, and practical integration across elementary
middle and high-school environments.
