Summer Bridge - Preparing Rising 9th grade Early College Students

Presenter: Andrea Garza | United ISD

Our Early College Academy provides a two-week transition program designed to equip incoming ninth-graders with essential leadership and college readiness skills. Through hands-on activities, group projects, and personal reflection, students build a leadership portfolio. In collaboration with the counseling department, community resource centers, and guest speakers, we provide a robust support network that addresses both the academic and emotional needs of students. The curriculum is enriched with topics like digital citizenship, healthy relationships, goal setting, and public speaking, culminating in students creating their own personal mission statements. Even more, current Early College students serve as mentors and group leaders, providing valuable guidance, leadership development for upper classman, and a sense of community for the incoming class. This session would be impactful for any educator guiding high school students towards becoming academically driven, strong communicators, self-advocates, and mindful community members.
