Assistive Technology: Consideration, Assessment, and Trial Planning Using WATI *IDEA Public School Teachers ONLY*

Complete Attendance not available before workshop starts.

*IDEA Public School Teachers ONLY*
This full-day professional learning session builds district-wide capacity in Assistive Technology (AT) decision-making through structured application of the Wisconsin Assistive Technology Initiative (WATI) framework. Participants will strengthen their understanding of Assistive Technology as both devices and services under IDEA and Texas Education Agency (TEA) requirements, and will learn how to implement a consistent process for AT consideration and assessment.

Using case-based learning and interactive station activities, participants will practice identifying task-based needs, applying the SETT (Student, Environment, Tasks, Tools) framework, and designing structured AT trials that include measurable outcomes, defined responsibilities, and follow-up planning. Emphasis is placed on aligning AT decisions to access to the general curriculum, Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), and meaningful student participation in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Participants will leave with practical tools, shared language, and structured protocols to support effective ARD/IEP decision-making, reduce assistive technology abandonment, and increase implementation fidelity across campuses.

By the end of this session, participants will:
1.Distinguish between AT consideration and AT assessment within IDEA and TEA guidelines

2. Apply task-based decision-making using the WATI framework

3. Use the SETT framework to structure Assistive Technology assessments

4. Design measurable and time-limited AT trial plans

5. Clarify team roles and responsibilities to ensure follow-through and documentation
