April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to recognize the strength and resilience of students who have a parent or caregiver serving in the military.
Military-connected education programs exist to support students who often experience unique challenges such as frequent school transitions, deployments, and family separations. Across Texas, school districts support military-connected families through welcoming enrollment practices, transition supports aligned to the Military Interstate Children’s Compact (MIC3), counseling and mental health services, staff training and awareness, and intentional partnerships that ensure continuity, belonging, and academic success. These efforts are essential to building stable, responsive systems for military-connected students and other highly mobile learners.
On April 24, the ESC will host a Military-Connected Spotlight in recognition of the Month of the Military Child. Staff are encouraged to wear purple and join us at the ESCafe from 9:00–10:00 a.m. Purple is intentionally used to represent support for military-connected students and is closely associated with the Purple Star Campus and District Designation, which recognizes school systems that demonstrate a strong commitment to serving military-connected students and families. Wearing purple is a visible way to show unity, appreciation, and ongoing support for this important work.
